[Also in Division F2] A steel leaf-spring 10 has tapering ends and a central portion with flat parallel side faces to which axially aligned trunnion pins 24 are secured preferably by friction welding. The spring is made by taper rolling and treating a length of bar stock, or by flame-cutting from bar stock. The said side faces are formed by lateral compression of the mid-section of the bar, thereby displacing metal to cause an increased thickness, or by machining. |
