<p>A communications device (100) includes a first layer and a synchronization unit (170). The first layer is adapted to receive a plurality of transmit frames and modulate the transmit frames to generate transmit symbols based on a set of physical layer operating parameters. The synchronization unit (170) is adapted to receive a primitive synchronization signal and change at least one of the physical layer operating parameters based on the primitive synchronization signal. A method for communicating messages requiring synchronization includes receiving symbols in a modem (100); analyzing the symbols to identify a primitive synchronization signal; and modifying a physical layer operating parameter of the modem (100) in response to identifying the primitive synchronization signal.</p> |
