PURPOSE: Provided are a transparent heat resistant resin containing reduced residual maleimide monomers, emitting reduced maleimide monomers by heat in a molding process or the like, excellent in heat resistance and hardly causing discoloration, and its manufacturing method and a resin composition using the same. CONSTITUTION: The transparent, heat resistant resin is obtained by polymerizing a co-monomer component containing a maleimide monomer and a methacrylate monomer. When the content of structure units derived from maleimide monomers in the resin is X wt.%, the resin contains residual maleimide monomers of 10X ppm or less and emits 10X ppm or less of maleimide monomers when heated for 10 min at 240deg.C. In a method of obtaining a transparent, heat resistant resin by polymerizing a co-monomer component containing a maleimide monomer and a methacrylate monomer, an acidic substance is caused to be present along with a sulfur-containing chain transfer agent in the reaction system in polymerization.
