The system has one or more cooling water circuits in the engine supplied by a coolant pump (4) via a valve depending inter alia on engine temperature. The pump can be connected to a cooler (8) supplied by the coolant return line or directly to this line via a bypass. The system has a distribution valve (2) and a regulating valve (2a) with a movable element in a housing that forms several regulated valve paths for coolant feeds to the engine (1).
