A mobile aircraft hangar (10) designed to provide a temporary enclosed working environment for workers performing aircraft maintenance, evaluation and support. The hangar (10) includes a mobile housing assembly (20) designed to enclose a section of the wing (92) or fuselage (91) of an aircraft (90). The housing assembly (20) is assembled over a chassis (40) with four wheels (65) and steering mechanism (66) that enables the housing assembly (20) to be easily driven around an aircraft (90). The housing assembly (20) includes one end wall (21) and two vertical side walls (22, 27), forming a three-sided enclosing structure. Formed on the housing assembly (20) opposite the end wall (21) is a main opening (31) through which a section of the fuselage (91) or wing (92) may extend. The housing assembly (20) also includes moveable floor panels (34) that can be arranged in different configurations for working on different sections of the aircraft (90). Optional lift actuators (70) are provided which enable the housing assembly (20) to be raised or lowered. Disposed over the housing assembly (20) is a roof assembly (50) that, in one embodiment, can be selectively raised or lowered to closely cover a section of the aircraft (90) placed inside the housing assembly (20). Formed on the two side walls (22, 27) are two recessed openings (25) through which a section of the wing (92) or horizontal stabilizer (95) may extend. An optional door (97), curtains, and slide panels (39) are provided over the main opening (31) and the recessed side openings (25), respectively, to provide a relatively closed structure.
