The contact element has a body (11) and a number of electrically conductive contact tracks (15) that are isolated from each other on the body's outer surface (14). The body consists only of a thin wall (12) that does not necessarily fully bound a hollow profile (13) enclosed by the body. The wall can be either solid or made from a woven material. It can be of metal or non-foamed synthetic material, especially a glass fiber material. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of manufacturing a contact element.
