The system has at least one data transmitter/receiver module (100) in a second telecommunications device and a matching data transmitter/receiver module (200) in a first data telecommunications device, whereby the data transmitter/receiver modules together form an optical interface. The first telecommunications device is preferably a telecommunications terminal or switching system and the second is especially a PC or laptop. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a bi-directional data communications method; (b) and, an application of the system especially for transferring software into a telecommunications exchange.
