<p>The invention relates to a method for damping the vibration of a roll used in paper production so that damping is exerted on the roll mantle from the outside of the mantle. In addition a vibration characteristic is measured and the damping is controlled on the basis of the measurement results. The damping is thus directed to the desired location, for instance to the centre of the roll, and the vibration quality is taken into account. The damping may be active or passive. The invention is applicable for instance to calenders.</p> |
