A fishing line weight (112, 212, 312, 412, 512) comprising a natural weight and an elastomer (116, 216, 316, 416, 516, 616), all of which are devoid of any environmentally harmful substances such as lead. In one embodiment, the weight (112, 312) has a hole (114, 314) through its body which serves to hold the elastomer (116, 216, 316, 416) which after passing through the hole (114, 314) is fixed to the weight (112, 312) by nodules (116A, 116B, 216A, 216B) at each end upon which loops (116C, 216DA, 216DB) are attached to the fishing line. In an alternative embodiment, a groove (214, 414) is circumscribed around the weight (212, 412) with an elastomeric band (316, 416) placed within the groove (214, 414).
