Round working machines are used for processing rod- and bar-type work-pieces, for example in order to produce a reduction in the outer diameter of the work-piece , resulting in an extension of work-piece, at the ends. In either case, the total volume remains constant. In some forms of machine, the diametral reduction is limited during one pass through the tooling, leading to problems when large cross-sectional reductions are needed, such as in recess processing. Improved working is now achieved since each eccentric shaft (9) has a cam system (10), with cams (11), and the diameter and eccentricity of each cam are each assigned to one stroke of the tooling (6). The cam system is axially adjustable in the direction of the axis of rotation (B), in order that the tooling stroke varies in synchronism with the other cam systems in the housing (3) and during the processing of the work-piece.
