<p>A stator assembly (10) for a linear motor includes a plurality of interleaved modular pieces (14b). Pre-wound coils (17) and spacer pieces (14b) are alternately provided along the length of the stator (10). The spacer pieces (14b) have a generally trapezoidal cross section, complementary to a trapezoidal cross section of the pre-wound coils (17). Rims (24, 24b) may be provided at an inner region of the spacer pieces (14b). At the outer edge of the spacer pieces (14b) is provided a wall (26) which mates with the identical wall (26) on an adjacent spacer piece (14b). The spacer piece (14b) may have radial slots (34, 36) cut entirely (34) and/or partially (36) through the piece (14b) in order to reduce the current and eddy currents induced when the pre-wound coils (17) are energized.</p> |
