In a process and apparatus for the continuous heat-treatment of metallic products, particularly wire, there is provided a fluidized bed through which the products are conveyed, the windbox of the fluidized bed having a partition towards the end at which the products are discharged; by employing a lower air pressure in the discharge end of the windbox a step is formed in the fluidized bed through which the product is discharged, the duration of treatment being thereby clearly defined. A similar arrangement may be provided at the charging end of the apparatus. As shown, overlapping turns of wire 1 are carried through bed 2 by conveyor 4; windbox 3 is subdivided by partitions 7, 8 and by appropriate setting of valves 14 the height of the bed above compartments 9, 11 is caused to be about 30% of the height above the main part 10.
