A thermopile sensor and a measuring method by infrared rays. A thermopile sensor capable of measuring a measuring target temperature in a short time, with a high accuracy and safety, comprising therein, in order to minimize the number of parts, a resistor having self-control type positive temperature coefficient characteristics. A temperature measuring method by infrared rays, capable of improving a measuring accuracy and reducing a measuring time, wherein a resistor having self-control type positive temperature coefficient characteristics is disposed in at least either one of a heating system for heating a thermopile's cold-junction area and a cold-junction-temperature measuring element system for measuring a cold-junction area temperature, and at least either one is thermally connected directly to a cold-junction area, whereby a thermopile output is synchronized with a thermal response speed.
