PURPOSE: To enable operation of control according to a dirtiness through provision of a dirtiness sensor and prevent detection accuracy of the dirtiness sensor from lowering. CONSTITUTION: Inside an outer case 1, a water tub 2 is disposed. In the tub 2, a drum 4 is disposed so as to be rotatable. At a lower portion of a rear surface 2a of the tub 2, a recess 32 is formed, and in the recess 32, a dirtiness sensor 25 is provided. The sensor 25 has a light emitting element and a light receiving element oppositely arranged away from the former, and is mounted to face the inside of the tub 2 to that the opposite directions of both elements are made lateral substantially.
