PURPOSE: A method for managing the bearer port status between the devices connected by a V5 interface is provided to identically maintain the bearer port status between the devices connected by a V5 interface, even though a bearer port is added or deleted after the two devices have completed system start procedures. CONSTITUTION: An access network device settles the status of an added bearer port as a remote block state(200). After providing a service block release message to a local exchange(202), the access network device drives a port control message timer(204). The access network device checks whether a response message for the service block release message is provided from the local exchange(206). If the response message is provided from the local exchange before time is out, the access network device checks whether a service block release message is provided from the local exchange(212). If the service block release message is not provided from the local exchange, the access network device checks whether a service block message is provided from the local exchange(218). If the service block message is provided from the local exchange, the access network device provides a response message to the local exchange in response to the service block message(220). Then the access network device maintains the status of the bearer port as the remote block state.
