PURPOSE: A piston for variable capacity wobble plate compressor and method for manufacturing the same is provided to allow the piston to be manufactured in a convenient and inexpensive manner by simply coupling the piston body and the end cap rather than welding them. CONSTITUTION: A piston(25) comprises a hollow body(26) reciprocating within a cylinder bore; a U-shaped recess portion(28) which is formed at a bridge(27) of the piston; and an end cap(30) coupled to an aperture of the body. The body and the recess portion are formed integrally with each other by the bridge. The body has a setting bead(26a) protruded along the inner periphery of the body, and the setting bead tightly contacts an end of the end cap. The body has a groove(26b) formed along the outer periphery of the body, and a corresponding bead(26c) formed along the inner periphery of the body. The recess portion has shoe pockets(29) formed at inner side surfaces of the recess portion so as to accommodate a shoe. The shoe disposed in the shoe pocket has a plane surface contacting the outer surface of the wobble plate and supporting the outer periphery of the wobble plate. The end cap includes a coupling portion(31) to be inserted into the aperture formed at the body, and a compression portion(32) formed integrally with the coupling portion and which compresses refrigerant. The coupling portion has a groove(31a) corresponding to the groove formed at the outer surface of the body, and an end contacting the setting bead formed at the body.
