APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING LOCATION OF TERMINAL IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORK

PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for determining the location of a terminal in a wireless communication network is provided to increase the accuracy of terminal location decision by estimating a TDOA(Time Difference Of Arrival) after making at least 3 forward pilot signals through an off-line DLL(Delay Lock Loop) to remove the interference of a terminal in a wireless communication system. CONSTITUTION: A synchronization part(22) acquires and traces the PN code of a received signal from a base station in order to adjust synchronization. An interference cancellation part(21) cancels the interference of a base station pilot signal using a pilot regenerated through forward prediction and pilot signal restoration. A paging channel part(25) acquires a paging channel from the received signal transferred from the synchronization part(22). A base station set selection part(26) selects a base station having the minimum GDOP(Geographical Dilution Of Precision), based on terminal location information transferred from a location determination part(29) and base station location information transferred from the acquired paging channel. A synchronization part(23) acquires and traces the PN code of the interference-removed forward pilot signal in order to adjust synchronization. A TOA(Time Of Arrival) prediction part(27) predicts TOA by minimizing an error due to howling through a smoothing technique. A TDOA calculation part(28) calculates a TDOA from the predicted TOA data. The location determination part(29) determines the location of a terminal, based on the TDOA data calculated at the TDOA calculation part(28) and the paging channel acquired from the paging channel part(25), and transports the determined location information of the terminal to the base station set selection part(26).
