PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling the power of a mobile terminal is provided so as not to do damage to a mobile terminal when the main unit and battery of the mobile terminal are separated in the power-on state. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling the power of a mobile terminal is comprised of a main control part(201), a power on/off button part(202), a charging battery(203), and a separation detection part(204). The main control part(201) controls the functions of the mobile terminal. The power on/off button part(202) generates power on/off interrupt signals and transmits the interrupt signals to the main control part(201). The charging battery(203) supplies power to the terminal main unit. The separation detection part(204) senses the separation of the terminal main unit and the charging battery(203), generates a power off interrupt signal, and transmits the interrupt signal to the main control part(201).
