PURPOSE: An apparatus for decoding data in a mobile communication base station system is provided to calmly cope with the change of a new technique or a new standard by embodying a viterbi decoder irrespective of a restraint length K. CONSTITUTION: An external communication module(30) receives data from an MUMA(Multi User Modulation Board) and store the received data in a dual port memory for performing a viterbi decoding of the received data. The fifth digital signal processing module(50) senses a receiving interrupt, reads the receiving data stored in the dual port memory, and writes the read data in dual port memories(70,90,110,130) included in first to fourth digital signal processing modules(60,80,100,120) which do not perform a decoding function. The first to fourth digital signal processing modules(60,80,100,120) read the receiving data written in the corresponding dual port memories(70,90,110,130) to perform a viterbi decoding algorithm, and write the decoded result in the corresponding dual port memories(70,90,110,130). The fifth digital signal processing module(50) periodically checks the corresponding dual port memories(70,90,110,130) of the first to fourth digital signal processing modules(60,80,100,120), and detects a flag for informing the decoding completion. If the viterbi decoding is completed, the fifth digital signal processing module(50) reads data decoded to be transmitted to a CSCA(Cell Site Board Assembly) from the corresponding dual port memories(70,90,110,130) and writes the read data in the dual port memory of the external communication module(30). The fifth digital signal processing module(50) controls a control logic of the external communication module(30) and transmits the data stored in the dual port memory of the external communication module(30). The control logic of the external communication module(30) reads the data stored in the dual port memory of the external communication module(30) and transmits the read data to the CSCA.
