A road marking comprises a layer of solvent-based paint, such as chlorinated rubber paint, laid on the surface of a road, and a transparent or translucent thermoplastics layer that has been applied in a hot condition over the paint layer. Retro-reflective elements, such as glass beads, are incorporated into the thermoplastics layer or at the boundary between the paint layer and the thermoplastics layer. A bulking material such as crushed glass and/or glass beads can be incorporated into the thermoplastics layer. A hot layer of the thermoplastics material can be applied over the paint layer before the paint layer is completely dry, and the thermoplastics material may be supplied as a pre-formed band that is heated in situ to adhere the band to the paint layer.
|
