PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting a weight of a hopper are provided to prevent an accident by preventing a generation of an excessive load and a preponderated load. CONSTITUTION: Weight of a hopper(1) is detected, and the weight detecting signals of each load cell are compensated in zero point and span through a compensating algorithm in a zero point/span compensator(51). The signals are operated in a subtracter(52) to obtain deviation. The deviation is compared with reference value of a reference set unit(54). If the deviation is higher than the reference value, an eccentric load signal is outputted through an alarm device of a control panel(60). To prevent continuous charging of material, a bucket stop signal is outputted to a PLC(Programmable Logic Controller,10). The average of the weight detecting signals is converted into specific voltage through a signal converter(40) and compensated in zero point/span. The average is compared with each low, middle and high level reference value. If the average is lower than the low level, a hopper gate(3) is closed to stop charging material to a conveyer belt(5). If the average is higher than the high level, a bucket(2) is closed to stop charging material. Finally, the work is performed normally with the material charged into the hopper if the average is lower than the high level.
