PURPOSE: An exhaust valve stem having the structure for removing carbon and preventing oil consumption is provided to prevent bad effects caused by carbon by continuously removing the carbon deposited in a gap between a valve stem and a valve guide and to restrain the soaking of oil in a valve stem seal in the upper portion of the valve stem. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust valve stem(12) includes upper and lower ring grooves formed in upper and lower portions of an exhaust valve stem, an oil ring(5a) installed in the upper ring groove to gather up oil soaking in a valve stem seal(6), and a carbon ring(5b) installed in the lower ring groove to gather down carbon. As carbon is effectively removed, an exhaust valve is smoothly operated. As the oil ring gathers up oil, the leakage of oil to the lower portion of the valve stem is avoided so that the waste of oil is prevented.
