METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SILICA GLASS BY USING SOL-GEL METHOD

PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a silica glass by using a sol-gel method is provided which keeps high dispersibility of the sol under acid conditions, increases the strength of the wet gel and lowers the contraction rate of the gel after drying. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) mixing fumed silica with deionized water to form a sol; (ii) hydrolyzing a silicone alkoxide such as diethoxydiethyl silane or diethoxydiphenyl silane having two alkoxide groups to form a hydrolysate; (iii) mixing the sol of the step (i) with the hydrolysate of the step (ii); and (iv) after putting the produced mixture of the step (iii) in a mold, gelating it.
