PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microlens array which does not incur the deterioration of the shape and quality of the microlenses and has narrow lens gaps and a small ineffective region and a method for producing the microlens array. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the microlens array, the surfaces of plural microlenses 18, 18 are coated with a phenolic resin layer 19 which reacts chemically with the microlenses 18, 18 and then the layer 19 is removed to form a transparent resin layer 10. Since the layer 10 is formed on the surfaces of the microlenses 18 by chemical reaction with the microlenses 18, the layer 10 can be uniformly formed. Since an expensive producing apparatus is not required and the microlenses 18 are hardly damaged when the layer 10 is formed, the microlens array uniform in shape is formed at a low cost.
