PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new brake device for a fishing reel. SOLUTION: This brake device for a fishing reel (2) has a side cover (20), a brake dial (24) which can be approached from the outside, is rotatably placed in the side cover so that the brake dial can be operated from the outside of the side cover, and has plural prescribed individual positions, at least one interactive boss (202) disposed on at least either one of the brake dial and the side cover, and an elastic boss (200) disposed on the other one of the brake dial and the side cover. Therein, when the dial is rotated in one direction to the contact position of the elastic boss with the interactive boss, the elastic boss is cooperated with the interactive boss so that the elastic boss inhibits the further rotation of the dial, until a force sufficient for deforming the elastic boss to permit the movement of the elastic boss crossing the interactive boss is added to the dial.
