1,181,357. Change speed control. DAIMLER. BENZ A.G. 29 Feb., 1968 [3 March, 1967], No. 9835/68. Heading F2D. In a motor vehicle automatic transmission control in which ratio shifts are effected in response to vehicle speed (not further described), and engine torque demand as indicated by the position of the accelerator pedal 23 or the control rod of a fuel injection pump (not shown), the pedal 23 controls an adjustable restriction 15 in the end of a passage 14 connecting a vacuum tank 10 to atmosphere, and including a fixed restriction 16, a duct 25 communicating the space 24 between the restrictions with a spring-loaded diaphragm 28 carrying a shift valve 31. The pressure in space 24 varies with the position of pedal 23, and hence with engine torque demand. The tank 10 is connected to the engine inlet manifold 12 through a one-way valve 13 which prevents charging of the tank with air at wide-open throttle. The tank may also provide suction for the vehicle brakes.
|
