<p>1,181,604. Boxes. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 17 April, 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 18167/68. Heading B8P. A box &c. of foamed plastics, e.g. polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene, shown as an open-topped meat tray 10, has at least one integral window 18 surrounded by a peripheral zone of flexible plastics, e.g. a small ridge (22), Fig. 7 (not shown), or an adjacent edge part (22<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 8 (not shown), of the foamed plastics. As shown, the whole base 12 of the tray has multiple diamond-shaped windows 18, forming recesses in which liquid may collect. A thick lip 16 reinforces the tray 10. The windows 18 may alternatively be square or circular in shape, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). In one modified construction, an egg box has windows formed along the flat top of its hinged lid, Fig. 3 (not shown). In another construction, a similarly-shaped egg box has each of its egg-receiving pockets formed with windows. The boxes &c. are made by first vacuum thermoforming a flat sheet of foamed plastics to the required shape, and then squeezing the area or areas where windows are required under heat and pressure to collapse the foam and solidify the plastics. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,141,566.</p> |
