PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which is improved in the contrast of projected images and is lessened in unevenness. SOLUTION: This projection type display device has two-dimensional light source image forming optical systems 202 and 203, a polarized light separating optical system 206 which polarizes and separates the first polarization component of the light emitted from the two-dimensional light source images, color separation optical systems 207A, 207B and 207C which separate the light to plural colors and emit the separates color light rays, plural reflection type light valves 208 which modulate the first polarization component to a second polarization component, an color synthesizing optical systems 207a, 207b and 207c which color synthesize the modulated light and emit the synthesized light, an analysis optical system 209 which analyzes the second polarization component, a condenser lens 204 which condenses the luminous fluxes emitted from the two-dimensional light source images and superposes the condensed luminous fluxes over the entire surface of the plural reflection type light valves 208 and a field lens 205 which converts the luminous fluxes emitted from the plural two-dimensional light source images to parallel luminous fluxes. The polarized light separating optical system 206, the plural reflection type light valves 208 and the analysis optical system 209 are arranged in the parallel luminous fluxes converted by the field lens 205. |
