PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of reducing 1,4-dioxane by a simple operation as much as possible. SOLUTION: A polyoxyethylene alkyl ether sulfate is produced by carrying out a sulfation reaction process for bringing a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether into contact with a SO3-containing gas at >=40 deg.C to sulfate the polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, a cooling process for cooling the reaction product of the sulfation reaction process at >=1 deg.C/s cooling rate to <=30 deg.C and a neutralization process for neutralizing the reaction product after the cooling process.
