PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent noise characteristics. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is produced by forming a soft magnetic film 2 on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 and further forming a perpendicular magnetic film 3 having the axis of easy magnetization aligned perpendicular to the substrate thereon. The soft magnetic film 2 shows the magnetic anisotropy in the circumference direction of the nonmagnetic substrate.
