PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which an appropriate quantity of ink is supplied to a main ink tank for supplying ink to a recording head. SOLUTION: A main tank 20 disposed on a moving carriage has a first ink chamber 32 holding ink under free state along with air. The main tank 20 and a sub-ink tank 22 fixed to an upper part are interconnected through a pipe 56A. Ink in the sub-ink chamber 81 of the sub-ink tank 22 forms an interface with the air on the pipe 56A through surface tension. When the moving carriage performs scanning under that state, an acceleration (a) acts on the ink in the first ink chamber 32 and the sub-ink chamber 81. Consequently, the air in the sub-ink chamber 81 is replaced by the ink in the first ink chamber 32 on the interface through pressure variation in the first ink chamber 32 and ink is supplied from the sub-ink chamber 81 to the first ink chamber 32. |
