PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric car controller for performing position control which makes it possible to stop and keep the car at its stop position quietly without causing the car to vibrate, even if its driver does not step on its brake pedal. SOLUTION: A control circuit 6 for an electric car 1 is composed of a speed/ torque command generating circuit 10, a position control selecting circuit 11, a position command generating circuit 12, and a motor control circuit 13. The control of a motor 3 is switched from its speed or torque control over to position control, when the car stops. Consequently, it is possible for the car to become stationary at its stop position without moving forwards or backwards, even if a driver releases its braking force generated by a brake after the car stops. Besides, the car runs by a specified distance automatically by a driver's simple command issued while the car stops by the position control, and becomes stationary at the position.
