PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide organic waste treatment process which enables easy and rapid volume reduction treatment of organic waste by subjecting the organic waste to high temperature fermentation treatment, and also to provide an equipment for the treatment process. SOLUTION: This treatment process for subjecting solid organic waste to fermentation treatment with a group of aerobic microbes, comprises: horizontally moving organic waste such as kitchen waste, which is received in a waste treatment vessel 1, together with a bacterium bed, from side to side while agitating the waste containing the bacterium bed with agitation blades for a prescribed period of time; also always supplying air pressurized to a required pressure to the organic waste; and subjecting the resulting organic waste to high temperature fermentation treatment with a microbe group formed by appropriately blending psychrophilic bacteria, mesophilic bacteria, thermophilic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria together, to perform volume reduction treatment.
