PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal spacer having high adhesion strength with a coating resin layer, hardly causing the peeling of the coating resin layer and having high mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal spacer consists of spherical silica particles having 1 to 20μm average particle diameter, <=1.5 geometric standard deviationσof the grain size distribution expressed by a formulaσ=(D1/D2)0.5, wherein D1 is the particle diameter at 84 cumulative wt.% and D2 is the particle diameter at 16 cumulative wt.%, and >=6μmol/g silanol groups.
