PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the transfer quality of a toner image by preventing image failure such as a drum memory due to excessive currents in a paper non passing part and feeding charges to transfer material with good efficiency. SOLUTION: The transfer material P is pressed to the surface of a photoreceptor drum 1 by a transfer roller 10 when the toner image is transferred, and current I is made to flow between the transfer material P and a conductive substrate 1c of the photoreceptor drum 1 by applying transfer bias to electrodes 5a by a power source 5b. Thus the toner image on the photoreceptor 1 is transferred to the transfer material P by an electric field that is formed in a transfer part T. Three pieces of the electrodes 5a are installed in the transfer material P in a direction of width of paper passage and the current I that is made to flow by each electrode 5a is controlled to fixed current by the power source 5b. Since a most appropriate transfer current taking the resistance of the transfer material P into account can be determined, the drum memory can be prevented and the transfer efficiency can be improved.
