PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material giving sufficient image density at a practical reaction temperature in a practical reaction time, having a silver tone close to pure black after development and less liable to change the silver tone with the lapse of time. SOLUTION: In the heat developable photosensitive material containing a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, photosensitive silver halide, a reducing agent for silver ions and a binder on one face of the substrate, the content of the reducing agent is 0.4-3.5 mmol/m2 and the reducing agent contains at least one compound of formula I (where R1 and R1' is each alkyl, at least one of these is secondary or tertiary alkyl; R2 and R2' are each H or a group substitutable on each benzene ring; L is -S- or -CHR3-; R3 is H or alkyl; and X and X' are each H or a group substitutable on each benzene ring).
