PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methane occlusion material which can increase a methane packing amount when loaded into a storage tank, etc., of a natural gas automobile. SOLUTION: This hydrocarbon occlusion material is characterized in that granular active carbon exists in the spacings of laminated active carbon fiber cloth materials. The mass ratio of the active carbon fiber cloth materials/the granular active carbon is 0.3 to 3.0 and the bulk density is at least 0.5 g/cm3. The active carbon cloth materials consisting of active carbon fibers of a cellulosic system, acrylonitrile system, phenolic system, pitch system, etc., are usable. Vegetable system active carbon made of coconut shells and timber as raw materials, mineral active carbon, made of coke and coal pitch as raw materials, etc., are usable as the granular active carbon.
