PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity aromatic acid chloride by which it can industrially advantageously be produced in high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the high purity aromatic acid chloride by hydrolyzing a trichloromethyl group in the side chain of an aromatic compound in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst comprises subjecting the reaction mixture to a simple distillation to remove the catalyst, and subjecting the obtained distillate to a superfractionation to separate and purify the aromatic acid chloride.
