A method for producing erythrose, comprising subjecting glucose to a decomposition reaction using water at a super-critical state or at a sub-critical state as the solvent therefor, and a method for producing erythrose from glucose, wherein the reaction time is set to a time period suitable for a high production level of erythrose and a low level of contaminated by-products.
