PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set having high musical taste such as to make the operation keys such as ten keys emit light in accordance with the scale of incoming melody. SOLUTION: The portable telephone set 1 has a display part 8, an input part 9 having the operation keys 9x, an illumination part 10 having light emitting elements 10x arranged in accordance with the operation keys 9x, a transmission/reception part 11, a melody generation part 12, a storage part 13 and a control part 18. When the transmission/reception part 11 detects an incoming signal, the melody generation part 12 operates based on melody data which is set in the storage part 13 and generates prescribed incoming melody. The illumination part 10 simultaneously operates and makes the light emitting elements 10x emit light, which are arranged in the operation keys 9 corresponding to the scales of prescribed incoming melody.
