PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar display device whose display range can be set and changed arbitrarily. SOLUTION: A start pulse STH is inputted from the central part of the horizontal direction of a screen to a shift register part for setting a driving range 21, and the pulse STH is shifted to left and right end sides. When the pulse STH is shitted to the left and right ends of a predetermined display range, the first-stage register position and the last-stage register position of a shift register for outputting a sampling pulse 24 are set, based on shifted positions of the pulse STH. Next, the shift register 24 shifts the pulse STH from the left side to the right side of the screen in a line in a set range, non-display signal display range of the left end of the screen and the nondisplay signal display range of the right end of the screen. Then, a display signal on display busses is supplied to a corresponding line wihtin a display range and a non- display signal on non-display busses is supplied to a correspnding line within a nondisplay range by controlling analog switches 41, 42, based on the pulse STH outputted from respective registers in the shift register 24.
