PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic zigzag-stitching machine to form a stitch according to an optimum base line standard or the needle traverse pattern at the base line position. SOLUTION: The needle traverse data corresponding to plurality of needle traverse patterns (two-point zigzag, three-point zigzag, four-point zigzag) is stored, the base line standard (S, R, L) and the base line position are inputted for each needle traverse pattern, and the data is stored in the table form corresponding to each needle traverse pattern (A). When a predetermined needle traverse pattern is selected, the data of the selected needle traverse pattern and the base line standard and the base line position stored in relation to the selected needle traverse pattern are read to form the stitch of the needle traverse pattern according to the base line standard or the bas line position (B). In this configuration, the base line standard and the base line position for the optimum base line are automatically set for each needle traverse pattern, and the sewing condition can be easily optimized without any mistaken setting.
