PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and easily determine and input an objective character candidate from a character candidate string displayed on a screen by using a direction indication part. SOLUTION: The character input device is constituted of a display part for displaying a cursor and characters on a screen, a direction indication part for indicating an optional direction/position with the cursor displayed on the screen, a character candidate storage part previously storing character candidates to be inputted as plural character candidate strings in each character sort, and an array form storage part previously storing the array form of plural character candidate strings to be displayed on the screen. The device is also provided with an input part for specifying the start of character input of a certain sort of characters and the array form of the character candidate string, a display control part for controlling the display part so that plural character candidate strings of the sort specified by the input part are arrayed and displayed in respective directions around the initial position of the cursor on the basis of the array form, a definition part for defining a character candidate on a cursor position indicated by the direction indication part, and an input character storage part for storing the defined character candidate as an input character. |
