PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of certainly processing data including an ink residual amount even in the case a memory element with a small memory capacity is used to be mounted on an ink cartridge, and an ink cartridge used therefor. SOLUTION: In a printer 1, as a memory element 80 to be mounted on ink cartridges 107K, 107F, a sequential access type EEPROM with a small memory capacity is used. Data including the ink residual amount are stored in the memory element 80 as 8 bit data. In contrast, an EEPROM 90 for storing data concerning an ink cartridge is provided in a printing controller 40 of the printer 1 for storing data including the ink residual amount as 32 bit data. In the case the cartridge is not replaced, the 32 bit data are used. In the case it is replaced, administration is carried out thereafter based on the data of the ink cartridge 107K. |
