<p>Carpets are obtained by (1) preparing the carpet using fibres containing sites for either cationic or anionic dyestuffs, both types being present, (2) contacting part of the carpet surface with a dyestuff paste containing an anionic and a cationic dyestuff, (3) repeating at least once with a fresh part of carpet surface and another dyestuff mixture, (4) treating with steam to fix the dyestuffs and (5) washing to remove excess dyestuff and drying. Stencil may be used for the selective exposure of the carpet surface. Tufted carpets may be printed by this technique. Previously multi-coloured carpets could only be prepared by weaving and this is an expensive process. In particular the fibres are based on acrylonitrile (co)polymers.</p> |
