PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image on a monitor having optimum display size and optimum resolution, in the case of decoding image data compressed by the discrete wavelet transform(DWT) method. SOLUTION: Prior to displaying an image on the monitor on the basis of image data compressed in advance via by the DWT, when the compressed image data are decoded, the decode condition at decoding is revised according to a space scalability function or an SNR scalability function that is a function of the DWT, the relation between the size of a display area of the monitor and a desired display size, an image display time on the monitor on the basis of the compressed image data, presence/absence of part image data to the same recipient or the elapsed time, and a compression rate of the compressed image data. |
