PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolyester resin composition that is excellent in physical properties, biodegradability and processability and a method for producing the copolyester resin composition. SOLUTION: The copolyester resin composition has a number average molecular weight of 30,000-70,000, a weight average molecular weight of 100,000-600,000, a melting point of 55-120 deg.C and a melt index of 0.1-30 g/ 10 min (measured at 190 deg.C under a load of 2,160 g). The resin composition is produced by a method of conducting multistage reaction, wherein (i) an aromatic/aliphatic prepolymer having a number average molecular weight of 300-30,000 and having 5 or less repeating units of aromatic groups adjacent to the position of a dicarboxylic acid in a molecule is produced as a starting material and used in the multistage reaction.
