PURPOSE: A fringe field drive LCD is provided to be capable of remarkably enhancing response speed and decreasing a rubbing process of one time by using a vertical alignment film. CONSTITUTION: Unit pixel spaces are defined in an upper substrate and a lower substrate(10) which oppose each other with a gap. An LC layer including several LC molecules is inserted between the upper/lower substrates. Counter electrodes(15) are respectively formed in the unit pixel spaces of the upper/lower substrates and receive a common signal. Pixel electrodes(17) are respectively formed in the unit pixel spaces, and form symmetrical fringe fields of two directions together with the counter electrodes. A polarizer having a predetermined polarization axis is distributed on an outer surface of the upper substrate. A decomposer having a predetermined absorption axis orthogonal to the polarization axis is distributed on an outer surface of the lower substrate. A first vertical alignment film is arranged on an inner surface of the lower substrate. A second vertical alignment film is arranged on an inner surface of the upper substrate.
