PURPOSE: A fuel quantity detecting apparatus of a fuel tank for an automobile is provided to always indicate accurate fuel quantity, easily calculate fuel ratio, and prevent inferior operation due to junction inferiority by using a non-junction way. CONSTITUTION: A fuel quantity detecting apparatus of a fuel tank for an automobile includes a second float(42) floating according to fuel quantity of the fuel tank, a first float(40) coupled to the second float for moving according to the floating of the second float, a sensor roller(50) installed inside the first float and engaged with first gear teeth(38) formed at the outer peripheral surface of a return pipe(32) for rotating clockwise or counterclockwise according to the movement of the first float, a photosensor(66) sensing the rotary frequency of the sensor roller, and a control unit outputting current value according to the rotary frequency of the sensor roller for detecting fuel quantity.
