PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling turning operation of excavator is provided, in which turning acceleration is adjusted in accordance with the weight of bucket, to thereby reduce impact caused by increase/decrease of turning speed and improve performance. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the first step of calculating the extended length of the front part by detecting a boom angle and an arm angle from a boom angle sensor(S1) and an arm angle sensor(S2); the second step of calculating a first current control signal for throttling the pilot pressure oil being supplied to water pressure units(24a,24b) of a turning control valve(24), wherein the first current control signal is nearly in inverse proportion to the extended length of the front part; the third step of detecting the pressure value corresponding to the weight of the front part from the pressure sensor mounted to at least one of the boom cylinder or arm cylinder; the fourth step of calculating a second current control signal which is obtained by decreasing the first current control signal in such a manner that the pilot pressure oil being supplied to water pressure units of the control valve increases, if the pressure value detected in the third step is higher than a predetermined pressure value.
